Self Management Time Reflections

What a wonderful improvement Totara have made as they work on becoming independent self managers. As YMS Heroes we need to be able to get on with our work and take ownership for it.

Today we completed our 3rd self management time. Check out the number of us who have really stepped up in our self management. (Please note 6 students leave the class for a maths group for half an hour so they aren't expected to complete everything).


So many ticks!! Go Totara.

At the end of each self management time we sit down as a class and reflect on our learning. The questions we have to answer are: What did we do and what can we do better tomorrow.

Self Managers!

Yesterday Totara were self managers at writing time. We had to complete 3 things and tick them off as we completed them.

At the end of the time we reflected on how we self managed. Most of us felt we self managed well. 

Here is our high tech tracking system.

We will continue to work on improving our output at self management time.

Sign language week

Today we had four senior students come and teach us some sign language. We learnt the signs for a song called Individuality that we are singing at assembly on Friday. We also learnt our numbers and signs for animals.

Chris Visits to Help us with Math Whizz

Chris from Math Whizz came and spent time in our room today.


We learnt that our accounts reset at 12 noon on a Monday.


If we do well in our exercises we can do a test. If we don’t do well in the test then we have to redo the exercise. We want to really do well in our tests as it helps our progress.


We can earn 15 credits for exercises that we complete well. We can use 30 credits for Tests that are correct.


We need to do 60 minutes in tutor every week.


We do practise and challenges in the Trophy part (practise part). We want to do our practise in the no medal exercises so we get better. We need to do our very best in tests so we can move onto something a bit harder.


Reply means we are competing against ourselves.
Create challenge means we challenge others from around the hard. It gives us people who are just a little better than us. We get 10 coins for this.


We can add buddies and we can have up to 10 buddies. Just type in our friends from class.


If you go into topic bank we can practise and it earns us points and time towards our week.


Try not to click really quickly through the teaching, make sure you understand it before you click to the next page.

Pause an exercise so if you have to have a break then it doesn’t count towards your time.
