Swimming Lessons

We have had one week of swimming lessons and are becoming swimming experts at our level. Some of us are working on blowing bubbles and making our way in and under the water. Others are learning how to kick and use our arms in the water. And others are working on our strokes and dives.

It is lots of fun and our instructors are lovely. While it can be a bit cold some days we are being brave and giving it our best, like the YMS Heroes we are!

Update - what a wonderful time we have had with the boat and lifejackets. Make sure you watch the video again as I have updated it with photos from our day.

Writing

Today we shared our wonderful writing that we had done with Mrs Van Herpt yesterday. Mrs S put us into two groups using her Popsicle sticks. We then shared our stories to one another. Each person received a round of applause, because we are such wonderful authors.

Numeracy on a Wednesday

Today we started with numeracy in Te Pihinga. Wednesday will be Strand day and Mrs Kingi put together a wonderful range of stations to explore the language of measurement. There were stations where we had to create long and short worms with play doh, measure different objects with cubes, estimate how many pieces of paper it takes to cover a table, draw things that are long and short in the classroom, create giants feet and compare them to our own feet and much more.

Here are some photos of our activities:

What a start!

What a great start to the new year. Despite the very hot weather the children worked very hard on Monday. We are getting used to the routines of class, the new arrangements of seating and how Mrs Spragg likes things. We are also learning how we are going to be working between classes. All the students of 'Te Pihinga' (the seedling) are learning how we work together and move between the classrooms.

We have been working on creating a book that is 'All About Me'. Mrs Spragg and Miss Carr shared their own books to the classes and then students were put into buddies and have been working on them ever since.

We also got to go for a swim! Swimming happens every day at 2pm, and we will go if we think it is warm enough. Children always have the option of hopping out if they get to cold. Here are some pictures of our first swim.
